Bring a gift!
If you are coming to teach, or even just on holidays, there are many helpful things you can bring to support
the children's education.

The kids here have access to laptops, but it is limited as hotel guests have priority for internet use.
With large classes and a small number of laptops, most of the children have not been able to use the
internet more than a handful of times.
The Ometepe Foundation supports the laptops for kids initiative. We are especially interested in attaining
the Eee PC laptop, specifically designed for children. You can find more information about it

Books
|
The kids have little access to general english books, so all kinds of children's books are
helpful and appreciated. However the most useful books are english books aimed at non-native english speakers,
or even better, specifically addressing learning english as a spanish speaker.

The children are smart and driven, so don't be afraid to bring an in-depth book. Also the teachers do
not have textbooks on which to base their classes, so any books in this area would help improve
class effectiveness.
Even if you just have a printer and an internet connection, there are many sites on the web where you can find useful
material for learning. Printing out this content is awkward and expensive here, so bringing printed material
with you or sending it to us is of great benefit.
Rewarding the children

As we've mentioned, the children are keen to learn, but it is also important to reward their efforts and
enthusiasm. This is done by allowing them to partake in some of the many exciting activities here.
Everything from horse-riding and kayaking to sail boat trips and football. |

The kids receive porridge with granola after class, to keep them healthy and as an incentive
to come to class. It costs less than USD$2 to feed a child granola every day for a month.
So your money can go a long way! |
